Unless someone wants to suggest that "Birthday Girl" should be considered OSR, I'm going to call it a fun DS. I particularly like the author's stated belief that, beyond "what could or might have happened", this is what SHOULD have happened.

I like this story, but at this point in their relationship, I think a birthday present in the form of a "big" kiss would have been a little more romantic and realistic. Just my opinion.

Agreed. Only as a "David's Dream Sequence" does "Birthday Girl" become in any way believeable. SO believeable, in fact, that I have updated the image for this story to illustrate what almost certainly happened next. See here.

Otherwise, the idea that Maddie would act this way with a dead body nearby (regardless of her "relationship status") is about as believable as the suggestion that this guy is Bruce Willis:
